The girl’s tennis team had to bring their A game on Tuesday as they were facing a strong Chaminade Julienne team who they were already familiar with on several levels. The Eagles were prepared for a tough match as CJ was the 4th ranked Div II team in the Miami Valley and Eaton was the 2nd ranked team. The lady Eagles were also looking for a little revenge because earlier in the season, CJ had edged them out of 1st place by one point at the Schroeder High School Invitational. Simply put, we put the pressure on our singles players because that’s where we dominated at the invite and our doubles teams finished behind CJ. So it was a pleasant surprise to see Tess and Erika play a very solid match against two good players and come away with a very good win. At second doubles Anna and Haneet struggled to get their game going. They are definitely learning on the job and are doing some nice things but just need to do them more consistently.
With the pressure on them, the singles came through with flying colors. Freshman Macy Hitchcock remains undefeated as she faced one of her strongest opponents to date. She really had to grind out long points throughout the match and had many close games but was fortunate to get most of them to go her way. At 3rd singles, Grace Murphy is keeping right up with Macy as she remains undefeated as well. Grace got another nice win even with CJ adjusting their line-up with a stronger 3rd singles player. Sophia Murphy at 2nd singles had a real strong showing as she started fast and kept it going the entire match. She played her brand of tennis which she hasn’t always been able to do this season. This win brings the Eagles to 10-1 with Miamisburg and Brookville up next.
