On Thursday the girls tennis team traveled to Brookville to take on league rival Brookville. After a cold start to the week the temperature climbed back up for Thursday and was a factor in some of the matches. The sisters Murphy got off to a fast start and ended up having nice efficient matches which got them off the courts in a timely fashion. The Brookville players did push them and played better than the score indicates.
The Brookville doubles teams were especially ready to play and really forced both of our teams to buckle down in the first set and start playing some real doubles. On both courts Brookville was in the lead deep into the first set. Fortunately for our girls, we turned our unforced errors into winning shots. That helped us close the sets out at 6-4 for each team. You can’t expect to play your best tennis day in and day out but the good players find a way to still get it done. That’s what I relayed to the girls. This match gives the Eagles a 4-1 league record with Valley View left to play. And overall the girls our 7-2. They’ll be playing in the Miami Valley Tennis Coaches Association Coaches Cup tournament this Saturday at Centerville High School where they will face some stiff competition.
