After having a great first day of sectionals the girls tennis team stumbled in their last match of the year to Centerville Black. One might say we actually snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. We lost this match 2-3 and if you look at the scores of the courts we lost, it could’ve been a win of 4-1. We actually had two match points in the first singles match but could not close the deal. Honestly, you have to give Centerville a ton of credit for the way they fought and hung in there. They could have easily given up in spots but they decided to fight back. I also blame myself for not having the girls has focused as they should have been. We just had sectionals the day prior and had 4 girls qualify to advance to districts. So we were still riding that wave some because that’s the most players to advance in school history for girls or boys. The loss brings the Eagles to 10-4 overall for the season. If anything, maybe this loss leaves a horrible taste in our mouths and motivates our girls this Saturday as they prepare for the semi-finals and finals of sectionals.
