On Friday the Eaton Eagles boys tennis team were hoping to extend their win streak to five and really have cause to celebrate Senior Night especially since the three seniors have been very instrumental in their success this season. Unfortunately for them, Dayton Christian crashed the party and denied the Eagles that opportunity. Without two normal starters on the doubles teams it was quite fitting that we were really counting on the three seniors, on Senior Night. We had the match where we wanted but then we let it slip away. John and Matthew at 2nd and 3rd singles picked up wins and our 2nd doubles team gave a valiant effort in their match but just couldn’t get the match to turn their way. So the match came down to Andrew at first singles. Able to win a competitive first set, we soon discovered that was just the beginning. The entire match going back and forth. Long, drawn out points. Then after he failed to win the second set he was down 0-3 right off the bat in the third. Admirably Andrew was able to get it back to 4-4 and felt like the momentum was swinging back his way but after two grueling games he found himself closed out at 4-6. That match stings. You feel for the kid when they’ve fought back so hard and not have it paid off. But, so many of life’s lessons can be found in sports. Hopefully they learn and move on. The Eagles are now 7-8 with Edgewood as their last match of the season coming on Monday. After that, the Eagles will look to get geared up for sectionals.
