Eaton Boys tennis hosted Div 1 Springboro Panthers for the first time. And even with Springboro not being at full strength they had just enough to squeak past the Eagles.
1st singles Breven Perry won a very tight match 7-6 (4),7-6 (5). After giving up leads in both sets Breven showed great mental fortitude and pulled out both sets in tie breakers.
2nd singles Andrew Collins playing in his first varsity singles match had to come back from a set down and had to play some tense points to close out a close 2nd set. He ended up winning the match 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
3rd singles Steven Perry also had to endure a tough 3 set match but came up short. Losing 6-4, 3-6, 4-6. Playing in his first varsity match, he had to fight off nerves, the wind, and an equivalent opponent. Hopefully there is a lesson or two in the loss that he can take away.
The 1st doubles team of Branson Ball and Aaron Tolliver had to contend with a very strong doubles. They lost 2-6, 2-6. In the process they were starting to figure out how to play together after taking a year off.
The 2nd doubles team of John Altom and Seth Bristow found themselves in a three setter as well but unfortunately fell on the wrong side and lost 7-5, 3-6, 2-6. Playing together for the first time, they are also in the process in finding out what works and what doesn’t.
The boys start off 0-1 and hope mother nature cooperates and let’s them get matches in with Dixie, Middletown Madison, and Talawanda before Spring Break.
