Meet Recap

1st singles Sophia Murphy won over Buzzard 7-6 (9),6-1.
2nd singles Tess Murphy won over Lyons 6-1,6-2.
3rd singles Quinlyn Sittloh won over Riley 6-1, Retired

1st doubles Madison McKinley and Addie Bell lost to Moore and Mcmonigle 3-6,6-3,4-6.
2nd doubles Katelyn Niehaus and Brianna Ward won over Alkhafaji and Gerber 6-3,6-2.

After a very rough start the lady Eagles finished their week by winning three matches in a row. Capping it off with a solid finish against league rival Monroe. This was the the last league opponent Eaton had to face and was a make up match due to an earlier rain out. This was a good win for the Eagles as they are now 4-2 in league with losses to just Oakwood and Bellbrook. They have put themselves in a good spot to fight for third place. They must have a strong showing at the league tournament next Wed 27th if they hope to hold on to third place.
In the Monroe match, the first doubles team of Madison McKinley and Addie Bell had the closest match and the only loss for Eaton on the evening. They had a slow start that cost them the first set but then they rallied back for the second set. And Monroe to their credit, kept fighting and playing hard in the final set. And ended up just making a few more plays than Eaton. And freshman Sophia Murphy had to overcome some hurdles in her first set. After being up 4-1, she found herself down 5-6 and needing to win her serve to at least get it to a tiebreaker. She did but she had to endure an extremely competitive tiebreaker. You play the first girl to get seven points by two, and Sophia ended up winning 11-9. That first set required a strong mental game.

The Eagles are now 11-5 but face some strong competition in Miami Valley on Monday and then Centerville Black on Thurs.

Meet Recap

1st singles Sophia Murphy won over White 6-2,6-1
2nd singles Tess Murphy won over Moore 6-1,6-1.
3rd singles Quinlyn Sittloh won over Co’s sick 6-4,

1st doubles Madison McKinley and Addie Bell won over Singleton and Kahn 6-1,6-4.
2nd doubles Katelyn Niehaus and Brianna Ward won over Manual and Martin 4-6,7-5,6-1.

After a strong performance the previous night which was senior night for the Eagles, they traveled to Edgewood who was having their senior. Much to the dismay of the Cougars, the Eagles spoiled the party by sweeping all courts and winning 5-0 for the ninth time this year. It was unusually hot and the girls did not necessarily play their very best tennis but they were reminded of a very good lesson. They have to constantly endure. Whatever it is, heat, cold, wind, pain, noise, a tough opponent, your serve not working. They have to learn to endure everything. The second doubles team did just that. After a couple of days off, Brianna Ward got back on the court with her partner Katelyn Niehaus. They had fight, claw, and climb back into a tightly contested match. After they dropped the first set, they hung tough and was able to get the second one. By that time, they had found their groove and won the third set 6-1. The Eagles are now 10-5 surpassing their win total from a season ago. They have a key league match with Monroe on Friday.

Meet Recap

1st singles Sophia Murphy won 6-1,6-0.
2nd singles Tess Murphy won 6-0,6-1
3rd singles Quinlyn Sittloh won 6-2,6-1

1st doubles Madison McKinley and Addie Bell won 6-3,6-4
2nd doubles Katelyn Niehaus and Lydia Fadden won 4-6,6-3,6-2

On senior night the lady Eagles finally stopped their mini losing streak by sweeping all 5 courts versus Talawanda. All three singles positions took control of their matches early and did not look back. Both doubles teams had their work cut out for them. Senior Madison McKinley and her partner Addie Bell had to to stay focused and fight for every point. Fellow senior Katelyn Niehaus and her partner Lydia Fadden had to overcome a poorly played first set and find a way to finally build some chemistry and play fundamental doubles. This brings the Eagles to a 9-5 record overall. Matching the number of wins from last season and they still have four dual matches to play. They will also start preparing for their league tournament and sectionals in the coming weeks.

Meet Recap

1st singles Sophia Murphy won over Fugate 6-1,6-0.
2nd singles Tess Murphy won over Hissong 6-3,6-4
3rd singles Quinlyn Sittloh lost to Fitch 5-7,3-6

1st doubles Madison McKinley and Addie Bell lost to Bushelman and Billing 5-7,3-6.
2nd doubles Katelyn Niehaus and Lydia Fadden lost to 6-1,5-7,3-6

For the second night in a row the lady Eagles lost a very close match 2-3. At the very least however they were in a position to win. The three courts that Eaton lost were extremely competitive. Especially the 2nd doubles match which had JR., Lydia Fadden playing her first ever varsity match. Her and Katelyn won the first set easily but could not pull out the 2nd after leading much of it. Then Milton took control of the 3rd set and was able to survive a challenge from the Eagles.

The Eagles hope to get back on track as they get ready to host Talawanda on Wed night. It will be senior night for the team. The loss brings Eaton to a 8-5 record.

Meet Recap

1st singles Sophia Murphy lost to Hubbard 0-6,1-6
2nd singles Tess Murphy lost to Reek 0-6,3-6
3rd singles Quinlyn Sittloh lost to Bulach 4-6,2-6

1st doubles Madison McKinley and Addie Bell won over Feck and Smith 2-6,6-1,10-7
2nd doubles Katelyn Niehaus and Brianna Ward won over Collins and Neal 6-7 (3),6-4,10-3

The lady Eagles lost a close competitive match to county rival Preble Shawnee last evening. A rain delay pushed the start of the match back and caused the teams to finish playing under the lights. With only three courts dry enough to play on we started with all 3 singles and unfortunately Preble Shawnee was able to take all three courts eliminating any drama of who was going to win. Both doubles teams rebounded from losing the first set to coming back and winning in third set super tiebreakers. The team as a whole, did not play their best tennis but there is a reason that Preble Shawnee is ranked in the Miami Valley Tennis Coaches Association Poll. They’re solid with good depth. So for us to be right there with them is the positive that we should take away from the match. The Eagles now 8-4 have to get ready for an even stronger Milton Union team on Tues.

Meet Recap

1st singles Sophia Murphy won over Kitchen 6-2,6-0
2nd singles Tess Murphy won over Gilbert 6-0,6-2
3rd singles Quinlyn Sittloh won over Fleming 6-2,6-2

1st doubles Madison McKinley and Addie Bell won over Shane and Staiger 6-2,6-1.
2nd doubles Katelyn Niehaus and Brianna Ward won over Kenney and Bentonville 6-4,6-2.

After two days of rain and no hitting the lady Eagles had to shake off a little bit of rust as they faced off against league rival Valley View. After a few games the girls were able to establish their style of play and was fortunate to sweep all five courts and improve their record to 8-3 overall. They are 3-2 in the Swbl southwestern division with a make-up match with Monroe due for 9/22. Next week presents a great opportunity for the girls as they are scheduled to play Preble Shawnee and Milton Union on Monday and Tuesday. Both teams are currently ranked as top ten teams in the Miami Valley Tennis Coaches Association Poll. If these girls want to prove they belong in that group, it starts next week. It’ll be a good benchmark to see where we’re at.
