On Friday, March 1st the Southwestern Buckeye League (SWBL) held its annual Student Leadership Conference at the Wright State University Nutter Center. Each year league leaders plan and organize the leadership conference attended by over 100 students, coaches and administrators including six student-athlete representatives from each of the 14 SWBL member schools.
This year’s conference was led by nationally renowned and award winning motivational speaker Mr. Harvey Alston. Mr. Alston is also the coordinator of the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s student leadership conferences.
Throughout the day students were encouraged to “Be the Leader You Would Follow” by Mr. Alston while attending various breakout sessions on “Positive Values – Perspective”, “Sportsmanship and Respect”, and “Teamwork and Healthy Lifestyles” presented by SWBL Athletic Directors.
“This event allows us to continue to build on the values and characteristics that our student-athletes receive through participation in educational athletics during their sports seasons. It is our hope that the student-athletes who attend the conference take the information that they’ve learned and share it with their teammates and peers where it can be used to help all of our student-athletes become better students, teammates, and citizens of our community,” shared Travis Miller, Eaton High School Athletic Director.
Representing Eaton High School at this year’s SWBL Student Leadership Conference were Freshmen Ali Mowen and Christian Reyna , Sophomores Kylee Kidwell and Tyler Gregory, and Juniors Shay Perry and Jarod Lee. The students were also joined by Eaton High School Girls and Boys Tennis Coach John Hitchcock.
