On Thursday, the Eagles saved their most dramatic and exciting match for their last dual match of the 2017 season. The Eagles faced off against Centerville’s B team. A team that Eaton has never defeated since they began playing several years ago. The Eagles took a hit right off the bat because their normal 3rd singles Quinlyn Sittloh was ill and unavailable to play. So junior Lydia Fadden filled in admirably. She lost a very close 1st set and just couldn’t get anything going in the 2nd set. First year player and 1st singles Sophia Murphy played very well and was able to prevail on her court. Then after both doubles teams from Eaton split courts, with Katelyn Niehaus and Brianna Ward winning at 2nd doubles, all the pressure fell onto first year player and 2nd singles Tess Murphy. At that point the score was 2-2 and she was the deciding court. In the first set she came back after being down 2-5 only to lose the first set in a hard fought tiebreaker. Luckily she kept the momentum from her come back in the second set and was able to win it 6-3. Forcing a deciding 3rd set. She started down 1-2 but then caught fire and won five straight games. Giving her and the rest of the team the win. Leaving the lady Eagles at 12-6 for the season. One of their stronger seasons to date. Now the team will get ready for sectionals starting next week. For the first time, the Eagles get to play in the Troy Div 2 sectional instead of Centerville’s. A move that will be very advantageous to the Eagles.
