The Eagles faced off against the #4 ranked D II school in the coaches poll in Miami Valley. Even though the score shows the Eagles getting swept 0-5 they were very competitive on several courts. The 2nd doubles team was putting some pressure on their opponents but couldn’t sustain it. 3rd singles Quinlyn Sittloh had opportunities on her court but could not seal the deal when the score was in her favorite. But the match of the night came down to freshman Sophia Murphy at 1st singles taking on senior Olivia Schrager on Miami Valley’s senior night. After losing the first set badly Sophia dug in and battled throughout the 2nd set, eventually winning in a lopsided tiebreaker. With daylight running out the girls fought back and forth for another full 3rd set. At one point Sophia was two points away from winning the match but got reminded that crossing the finish line is sometimes the hardest thing to do in tennis. Ultimately she lost 5-7 but both girls played some outstanding tennis. And hopefully this loss will help her in many ways as she continues to grow and develop her game.
The loss puts the Eagles at 11-6. And they now prepare for their Swbl league tournament this Wed. The Eagles hold a narrow lead over the Monroe Hornets for 3rd place. They’ll need to play sound, fundamental tennis to maintain it.
