Multiple Teams · Wrestling Wins Eaton “Sam Ridder” Invitational


The Eaton High School Wrestling team continued their winning ways over the weekend as they captured the Eaton “Sam Ridder” Invitational held at Eaton High School on January 29 and 30, 2016.

In a special ceremony prior to the start of the Championship Finals, the Eaton Invitational was officially renamed in honor of former Eaton High School Coach, Teacher, Athletic Director and Administrator, Mr. Sam Ridder.

In an event that featured 21 schools, the Eagles battled back on the second day of the tournament to climb atop the leader board with a total team score of 186.5 as they bested second place Ross for the Team Title. Ross finished with a score of 174.0 while Springfield High School finished in third place with 137.0 points.

Individually, Eaton Senior Drew Moore won the 160lbs. weight class defeating Jacob Yost of Springfield in a fall (5:03).

Two Eagles took second place honors, Senior Matt Todd in the 220lbs. weight class and Freshman Wade Monebrake in the 106lbs. weight class.

Junior Coleman Manning defeated Justin Boyle of Edgewood (Dec 9-5) in the 126lbs. weight class while Senior Parker Wilken defeated Blake Coy of Carroll (Dec 4-3) in the 170lbs. weight class – both earning third place honors.

Additionally, Junior Isaac Ilo finished in 4th place (152lbs.) while Freshman Cameron Schmidt (120lbs.), Senior Brandon Weaver (132lbs.), Sophomore Spencer Reynolds (182lbs.) and Junior Kevin Melling (195lbs.) all finished in 5th place.
