Thursday, September 24 was more than just the SWBL Golf Tournament, which is held annually at Beechwood Golf Course in Arcanum, Ohio. It was also the last time siblings Cameron Willis (Senior) and Sarah Willis (Sophomore) would tee-it-up together as interscholastic teammates.

In Ohio, when schools have 4 or more girls participating in the sport of golf they make up a “Girls Golf Team”. In situations where there are less than 4 girls participating, girls may participate with the Boys team throughout the regular season but then will enter the OHSAA Girls Golf Tournament as an individual entry for the post season tournament.

As a result, following the completion of Thursday’s SWBL Championship, Cameron (the 2012 OHSAA Division II State Champion) and the rest of the Boys on the Eaton High School Boys Golf Team will begin preparing for the Boys OHSAA Sectional Tournament taking place on Wednesday, September 30 at Pipestone Golf Course. While at the same time Sarah will begin preparations for the Girls OHSAA Sectional Golf Tournament which will be held at Stillwater Valley Golf Course, also on Wednesday September 30.

To commemorate their final match as teammates Cameron and Sarah only finished 1st and 2nd respectively in the SWBL Southwestern Division Tournament and led the Eagles to a 2nd place team finish both in the tournament and overall for the season behind Oakwood High School. Cameron led the way with a 18-Hole Round total of 72 claiming not only Medalist honors for the tournament but also Player of the Year Honors for season in the SWBL Southwestern Division. Not far behind, Sarah put forth a very solid 18-Hole Round total of 75, finishing as 1st Runner Up for the Tournament second only to Cameron, while earning SWBL 1st Team All League Honors for the season.

So what will this dynamic sibling duo miss the most as teammates? According to Sarah, “I will miss the practice sessions with Cameron, having someone to compete with year round.  I will miss all the Seniors next year.”

Meanwhile, Cameron shared “You have to be sure to be a playing partner and give space, but also be a brother.  We played well as a team because of Sarah.  It was nice having Sarah on the team because she takes the game of golf just as seriously as I do.”

Cameron, Sarah and the rest of the Eagles will continue to represent Eaton High School well as they begin their OHSAA Post Season Tournaments this week. More information regarding their OHSAA post season tournaments can be found at
